NEWS: TETHYS4ADRION in Action: Spring Monitoring on the Reno Pilot River
On April 14, 2026, project partners from ISPRA carried out the second spring monitoring on the Reno River at the two sites around the river’s mouth, and at the two sites close to the City of Bologna in Italy.
- During this field activity, monitoring of floating macrolitter and macrolitter along the riverbanks was conducted.
- The floating macrolitter was monitored using a visual observation method from the last bridge before the river enters the Adriatic Sea, in accordance with the project’s official toolkit.
- A wide variety of litter items was recorded, once again highlighting a critical issue: plastic remains the dominant material.
This monitoring campaign was carried out by: Barbara Amadesi, Tomaso Fortibuoni, Roberto Crosti, Elena Santini, Francesca Ronchi, and Veronica Maruso.
The field activity covered the same riverbanks monitored during the winter campaign, ensuring full comparability of results.
Here you can read about the winter monitoring conducted in January 2026.
Monitoring activities on the pilot rivers will be conducted four times per year, once in each season.
Many thanks to Tomaso Fortibuoni for the photos.
